Many patients with neurological conditions require radiological studies such as MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) or CT (computerized tomography) scans. The MRI and CT scan operate differently, and are suited for different types of diagnoses. Both of these diagnostic studies can be used to view the brain, the spine and injuries of the head, neck, and back. Clinical scans show the anatomy or structure of the brain, spine and spinal cord.

Sickle Cell Disease is a group of inherited red blood cell disorders. Sickle red blood cells become hard, sticky, and shaped like sickles used to cut wheat. When these hard and pointed red cells go through the small blood tube, they clog the flow and break apart. This can cause pain and damage to organs such as the spleen or kidneys. Sometimes people experience a prolonged period of pain - called crisis - in which emergency department visits or hospitalization may be necessary.
For more information about TMC's Sickle Cell Center, please call 816-404-4290 between the hours of M-F 8 AM-4:30 PM.
